For some, joining a writing group is as easy as googling for a chapter in one’s own neighborhood. However, there are those who work two jobs, have long commutes, or live in far-off places, for whom a writing group simply isn’t possible… until today! Whether you’re beginning to submit work, or you’re a seasoned writer, joining Fright Club, the HWA’s Online Writing Group, will allow you to advance your craft from the comfort of your own home.
As a participant you will become one of a group of ten, where you will be able to hone and refine your talents with kindred spirits that have just as much of a passion and determination to succeed in the genre as you do. It’s important to acknowledge that even if one participant may not be as far along in their career as another, everyone has something to offer. With each new member the group gains a unique body of knowledge from which participants can benefit, and the program itself gives participants the opportunity to see their work from the vantage point of those who will evaluate it. Membership will not directly lead to future work or publications, but the skills and contacts made throughout the program will be invaluable.
Our motto goes, ‘Pants are optional. Work is not!’ Turning in regular work will be compulsory to sustaining membership in the group, which in-turn will lead you to becoming a more consistent and better-paced writer. Likewise, reading the work from your peers, and critiquing, will allow you to train your skills in proofreading and critical thinking. Our weekly assignments will keep you on your toes and your ideas fresh and dynamic while building your self-confidence.
While you are reading this, a group is already in session, and each group takes an average of ten weeks to run its course. Therefore, although you may sign up today and be very eager to begin, please keep in mind that you may need to wait a few weeks, or longer, before you are able to participate in this workshop. Please be patient, and know that sooner or later we’ll get you too!

- Am I an HWA Member? If not, you start your membership journey here.
- Can I commit to ten weeks of meetings, writing, and critiquing?
